Temporary closure of UK Biobank imaging centres

In light of the uncertainty and current concerns about coronavirus (COVID-19), UK Biobank is temporarily closing its imaging centres in Bristol, Reading, Cheadle and Newcastle. Imaging centres scan up to 18 people a day, to create a valuable resource for health research. They will re-open when the situation improves. At that point, we will make contact with participants and re-book their appointment. Staff will continue to be paid while the centres are closed. Some participants have already decided to cancel their appointments.

Professor Rory Collins, UK Biobank Principal Investigator, said: “We are very grateful for the support of our participants in this project. Many fall into a somewhat older age group and may be more vulnerable to the impact of coronavirus. Their health and safety is our main concern, and we feel it is better to be cautious and take pre-emptive action.”
